Canakkale is known as the cradle of Troy , it was once the centre of civilisation in Assos ; full of monuments and graves in the Gallipoli Peninsula Historical National Parks; the most bloodiest of fights took place here during the Canakkale wars; it is where the Aegean and Marmara seas meet connecting Europe with Asia, and is now an important place for foreign tourism. The area holds the land on both sides of the Bosphoros strait and in ancient times was known as Hellespontos and Dardanel, and has had settlements here since the beginning of time. The first settlement was established in Troy in around 3,000 BC and has been ruled by Lydians, Persians, the Kingdom of Bergama, Romans, Byzantines and Ottomans.
