The Babylonians were the first settlers here, it flourished under Arab rule and it was the Selçuk’s who left their mark on the town. There is not very much to see and its main attraction is a 12th century Ulu Mosque with its tall square brick minaret decorated with geometric patterned tiling, the mosque Cumhuriyet Mosque and the Seljuk built Kavvan Hamam.
The town hasn’t experienced much in the way of tourism, long haul buses run here and the main bus station is 2km west of the town, and there is a train station in Kurtalan 30km away that has a dolmuş minibus service running to and from town. Accommodation here is limited and there are a few good and reasonably priced restaurants available.
