Ski Tourism in Turkey

Ski Tourism in Turkey
Although Turkey is normally considered as a summer resort, there are number of ski resorts with European standards.

Uludag

Probably the most famous skiing resort is called Uludag, located above Bursa. The maximum altitude is 2232m. Although Uludag is known as the best skiing destination, it is also the most expensive one.

Kartalkaya

Kartalkaya , which is located near Bolu ( midway between Istanbul and Ankara ), is also a very famous skiing resort, cheaper than Uludag , however with a lower top altitude of 2223m.

Palandoken

Out of all the ski resorts available, Palandoken has the best snow conditions and the longest season, however the transportation to the area is more challenging, as it is close to Erzurum . Palandoken has a top lift, which goes over 3000m, three chairlifts, 3 km long gondola car and a T-bar. This is where the Turkish Olympic team trains.

Saklikent

Saklikent, located on Beydarlagi near Antalya , is especially ideal for early spring, however the snow is thinner than other resorts. A resort, which has more reliable snow conditions than Saklikent is Davraz, which opened in 2001. Other resorts that are available are Tekir Yaylasi on Erciyes Mountain near Kayseri and Sarikamis, near Kars .
