Chicken with White Sauce
1 Whole Chicken
1 Whole Onion
1 medium chopped Onion
1 chopped clove of Garlic
2 chopped Spring Onions
2 medium diced Courgettes
6-7 sliced Mushrooms
1 teaspoon of Salt
Pinch of Pepper
For the sauce:
38gr of plain Flour
240ml of warm Milk
3 tablespoons of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
For the garnish:
110gr grated Mozzarella or Kaşar Cheese
How to prepare
This recipe makes 4 servings.
You will also need a 2L ovenproof dish
Preheat the oven to 200˚C
Place the chicken in a pan, cover with water, add the whole onion and bring to a boil.
Simmer for 15-20 minutes.
Remove the chicken and allow it to cool down, discard the onion
When the chicken cools remove one chicken breast and set aside to use in another recipe.
Remove and discard the skin and bones from the remaining chicken.
Using your hands tear the meat into bite sized chunks.
Lightly fry the onion in olive oil for a 1-2 minutes then add the garlic, salt and pepper.
As soon as the garlic releases its aroma blend in the flour, then slowly add the milk constantly stirring with a wooden spoon or small egg whisk then turn the heat off.
Mix in the chicken, courgette, mushroom and spring onion then spoon into the oven dish.
Sprinkle the grated cheese all over the top, bake for 40-45 minutes until the top is golden brown.
