Ortakent

Ortakent
This is 12km from the centre of Bodrum and has the longest beach where the water is much colder than elsewhere on the peninsula and so clean it has been awarded a Blue Flag certificate; the green plain behind the beach, full with citrus trees, stretches all the way to Bodrum.  At the waterside of Yahsi Yalisi many new hotels have been built from 5-star to budget and just 1km from Ortakent’s centre, an archaeological dig unearthed pottery, ceramic and bronze artefacts, now displayed in Bodrum Museum and it’s known that there was a settlement here in the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman times.  At the site of Cakmakli what was a Temple of Apollo was converted into a Byzantine church that became an episcopacy centre; the 2-storey old Greek houses known as “Arpranga” were all built to have a view of the cove and today are safeguarded by a heritage protection order.  Kargi Cove is located on the western end of this wide cove and to the north of Bagla Point it is very sheltered, has a beach of fine sand that is great for swimming, is popular with the daily boat tours and also offers visitors rides on camels.
