Things to do in Etiler

In this very upmarket residential area, which part is part of Besiktas , it is not sightseeing that attracts visitors as the main things to do; here are to shop or to eat at one of the many excellent restaurants most of which offer great views.

Akmerkez Shopping Center

The Akmerkez used to be the most upmarket shopping mall until newer malls were built, but is still an excellent place to see how the upper echelons of Turkish society live. The mall underwent complete renovations in 2009 to bring it into line with its newer rivals. 

Nispetiye Road

Nispetiye Road is home to many cafes, restaurants and designer shops.

Etiler has many wealthy residents, which is quite evident from the prices charged in the restaurants and stores, however we would advice you to try a few restaurants in the area.

In Etiler, there is not much in the way of historical interest.  

Where the Etiler name drives from

The name Etiler refers to the Hittites who were one of many that left their mark in Central Anatolia and immediately after the Turkish Republic was founded in 1923 it became fashionable for suburbs like this to be given names that referred to people from the distant past; another example is Akatlar which comes from the Akkadian people.  

Getting to Etiler

To get to Etiler; you can walk from 1. Levent Metro Station or take the Bus No. 43R from Kabatas .
